Martial Arts

As part of the Fellowship, students are required to participate in martial arts. Martial arts training develops mental discipline and builds self-confidence, two important qualities that complement our intensive academics. Students who learn how to concentrate in martial arts can transfer that skill to the classroom; the confidence they develop through martial arts helps them tackle academic challenges as well. Our martial arts classes are taught by our Executive Director, who happens to be a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo and a first-degree black belt in hapkido. In April 2005, two students, Chris Perkins and Lukendric Washington, became LEAD Martial Arts' first student black belts. They are now certified instructors through Unified Taekwondo International.

Girls as well as boys participate in LEAD Martial Arts. One thing they particularly enjoy is sparring.
