Suggestions for Teens

1) When things in your community aren't going as well as they should then you should become a leader and decide that you want to make a change. You can start out as a small group and as time goes by then you can get more people to join in with you.
Here's what we did

We started out as a small group and we went around in each one of our communities and found out the things that were good and the things that were bad and how they effect our lives and how we live it day to day. We also interviewed people in the surrounding areas about their roles in the Civil Rights battle. By us being a small group we just had to put in more time then it would have taken a larger group, but that was okay because we found out more things about our community and the history. While doing this project we have learned about the history of our communities and how important they were and how the people in them made a difference too. Like in Ruleville, MS, Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer made a difference in her hometown because she felt the way she was being treated wasn't fair to her. By doing this project it made us look at things that we might have never looked at or thought of as being bad or good.
Media is going to have a good impact on each one of our lives because we all have put little things from our communities together and now it shows how much we are related as far as communities go. It's going to show people how we went out in the surrounding areas and got information from people that actually experienced those beatings and being locked up. Maybe it will inspire other teens to go out in their communities and try to do the same things to find out the history of their communities because they never thought about it and now they would like to know about the town that they live in.
Some other suggestions for teens that would be helpful are the following:

2) Go around doing little things such as picking up litter, helping an older person or just doing something that no one else in the community has been doing to show their concern in the community.
3) You can just go around and try to get an organization going so that you can have more people behind yoiu doing what you believe should be done in your community.
4)Don't sit around waiting for someone else to become aware of the problem because they might not care about the community as much as you do.
So when it comes to anything involving your community or even you just become a leader not a follower because it will pay off in the end.
